Audi A8 Gets a Few Updates

For the 2008 model year Audi has updated many components of its flagship sedan, although you probably won't notice most of them. First the A8 is going to be offered with the 2.8L FSI six-cylinder engine (Europe) that will put out 210 hp and achieve 28mpg.

The revised A8 also receives a revised air suspension and more direct steering. Audi is also working on an alert system that will alert drivers when another vehicle is in their blind spots and if the driver starts to drift in an out of the lanes on a freeway.

Styling has been slightly updated on the 08' version. The single-frame grille has been updated, turn signals have been added to the mirrors and the taillights have been revised

The current generation Audi A8 or otherwise coded the D3 has been with us since 2003. Only receiving a few minimal facelifts, it’s rivals, the Mercedes S-Class, Lexus LS, BMW 7-Series and everything that falls within the same category have all but moved on past facelifts and onto new models already. That’s a fact but the truth is, the design will have to stay on for at least another two years as the next generation ‘D4′ A8 isn’t due to arrive until 2010. A prototype has been spotted undergoing cold weather testing while hidden under the current D3 body. The first give away was that it was odd to see an almost obsolete model undergoing testing at such a late stage in its life cycle, and that it needed extended fender flares, a stretched wheelbase and wider track, what other visual cues could a trained eye need?

The A8 will use an extended version of the modular platform used in the A4 but predictably will be built using more exclusive and exotic materials such as aluminum and magnesium to save weight and improve dynamics. The engine line up will very likely be the same as the current range, starting with the 2.8 liter petrol onto the middle class 4.2 liter V8 FSI and Audi’s all new 6 liter V12 TDI to top the segment.

There will also be other units depending on country and demand and this will include superchagred units as well as an increased application of Audi’s latest valve-lift system. Those passionate about motor engineering might not be too happy but Audi’s 6 liter W12 engine is reportedly being phased out due to its high costs and emissions. Expect the base model to retain its FWD layout but All-Wheel-Drive variants will feature later on with Audi’s latest Quattro torque vectoring systems, which distribute drive individually between each axle and between the rear wheels for improved traction and stability.

Even with just the unofficial photos, people have already begun to express their rants and raves for the recent unit. Some like it. Some don’t. The alleged additional four inches to the car’s body has mixed reviews so far. Some find it necessary to have enough space for the diesel V12. Others just don’t like the look when it’s four inches wider.

Have we really found the 2010 Audi A8? As far as the company’s concerned, these are yet to become official.

Audi unveiled the Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro yesterday ahead of its official unveiling at the Detroit Auto Show next month. Now the first photos of the R8 V10 in red have been released.

The Audi R8 V10 is powered by a Lamborghini-sourced 5.2L V10 engine that puts out 525 horsepower and propels the car from 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 196 mph. The V10 engine is mated to either a a 6-speed manual or R-Tronic semi-automatic.

World's largest Audi centre opens

audiThe world's largest Audi car showroom will open in London next Monday, October 19.

Located next to the M4, Audi West London has three showroom floors, making it possible for drivers on the motorway to see displays inside the centre.

The dealership will have space for 116 cars, a 32-car workshop in the basement and a two-storey exhibitions and conference centre.

Innovative design
Designed by Wilkinson Eyre, the same company that created the Millennium Bridge in Gateshead, the architecture of Audi's new centre takes inspiration from themes including the manta ray fish and the wings of a B2 stealth bomber.

The one-tonne aluminium sculpture that dominated Audi's display at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed is suspended in a purpose-built atrium within the centre.

The showroom cost £45 million to build and up to 30,000 customers a year are expected to use it.

Audi estimates that it will sell around 700 cars from its new London showroom in the next 12 months.

Spyder stars at new Audi showroom

AUDI rolled out the long-awaited open top version of its lightweight, mid-engine R8 Spyder when the company opened the doors on the German firm's new flagship showrooms in London.

Based on the 525PS, 5.2-litre FSI model but with a bespoke body featuring extra weight-saving carbon fibre composite panels, Audi's new star car is expected to start reaching UK customers early next year.

Priced from £109,580, the quattro-drive supercar has a soft-top hood that can be lowered and raised at the touch of a button in 19 seconds at speeds under 31mph.

When lowering, it folds like a Z under the automatic cover of its storage compartment above the 10-cylinder engine.

Standard equipment includes all-LED headlights - a world first for Audi in the R8 V10 - an extended leather interior package, heated seats, DVD satellite navigation and unique new seatbelt-mounted microphones which make it possible to talk on the phone even with the top down on the motorway.

Like its Coupe relative, the Spyder delivers uncompromising performance from a largely hand-built motor which develops 530Nm torque and spins freely to its 8,700rpm limit to take the car to 62mph from rest in 4.1 seconds and go on to a top speed of 194mph.

The tuning company B&B, based in Siegen (Germany) refined the new Audi Q7 Facelift. Actually, they created a real monster, which has 595ps and 1270Nm of torque under the bonet, developed by 6.0 litre V12 Turbo diesel engine.

The engine tuning has two stages. First – an increase of the boost pressure of 0.2bar, which costs 2.498 EURO and the second stage includes changes to the suction pipe, airflow and air cooling system and modifications to the unit-injector element. With rebalancing the ECU software of the SUV the power reaches 595hp and 1270Nm, really an amazing results for diesel engine. Stage one for the V12 TDI costs 2.498 EURO and the stage two is 7.950 EURO.

The company B&B also offers two tuning stages for Audi Q7 4.2TDI. At the Stage one the results are 375 hp and 850 Nm of torque and the stage two reaches 400 hp and 900 Nm of torque. The first stage costs only 1.698 EURO and the seconds is much more expensive EUR 4.950 .

There are three tuning stages available for Q7 3.0TDI. First one is increase of the boost pressure of 0.15 bar, priced at 1.398 EURO to reach 280 hp and 585 Nm. Stage two costs only a hundred more – 1.498 EURO and the results are much better 300 hp and 600 Nm. The maximum output power of 3.0 litre TDI engine comes with stages three. The engine reaches 325 hp and a maximum torque of 640 Nm.

The company offers special B&B alloy rims for the Audi Q7 – 20”, 22” and 23” are available in the option list.

There is also a optimization of the air-chassis, which can be lowered by 50mm, this will cost you another 985 EURO.

The aerodinamyc package from B&B includes: front and rear skirt, fender enlargements and roof spoiler. The price is 3.498 EURO.
